Microsoft's Xbox 360 has been crowned the best games console by readers of British gadget magazine T3.

The next-generation console held off competition from Nintendo's DS Lite and Sony's PlayStation Portable (PSP) to land the award.

Apple's 30GB iPod won the prize for best MP3 player, while Sony Ericsson’s W810i scooped the accolade for top mobile phone.

"The poll is interesting because some of the trends where we have been thinking, 'is this really happening in the real world?', seem to be happening," said Jason Jenkins, dehttp://admin.999network.com/index.php?module=GlobalNews&action=ManageStories
Manage Storiesputy editor of T3.

"For example, the fact that people are increasingly getting rid of their iPods and going for phones to listen to music on the move is something we have been writing about for months, but it's interesting to find out that people are actually doing it."

The PDA prize went to Blackberry for its 8700G, while the TomTom Go 910 was victorious in the satellite navigation category.

Other winners included the Archos AV500 for best portable video and the Zero Gravity Wall Climber for best boy's toy.

More than 5,000 readers of the popular magazine voted in the survey.

Microsoft launched the Xbox 360 in the United States and Canada last November.

The US software giant said it expects to sell around 10 million units of the Xbox 360 worldwide by Christmas.

In addition to playing games, the console can also be used to watch DVDs, view photos and listen to music.
