Sony's next-generation PlayStation 3 (PS3) has become the fastest-selling home games console in the UK.
About 165,000 were sold in its first two days in UK shops, according to official Chart-Track figures.
The PS3 comfortably outsold both Nintendo's Wii and Microsoft’s Xbox 360.
The Wii, which is much cheaper than the PS3, reportedly sold around 105,000 units in its opening weekend.
Overall, Sony's PlayStation Portable (PSP) is the fastest-selling games console of all time in the UK, with more than 185,000 units sold in its first two days.
Chart-Track also said that six of the 30 PS3 games which were available at launch entered the Top 10 official UK games chart last week.
PS3 titles Resistance: Fall of Man and MotorStorm entered the chart in first and second respectively.
The PS3, which costs £425, was launched in the UK on March 23, four month's later than originally planned. In the US, it sells for either $499 or $599.
The UK version of the PS3 has an IBM Cell 3.2 GHz processor, 256 megabytes of memory, a 60 gigabyte hard drive and a Bluetooth-enabled wireless controller.
Sony, based in Tokyo, Japan, is the world's second-largest consumer electronics maker.
