Dorset-based Dodge Interiors has increased its range of sustainably sourced carpets and flooring for 2008, to provide its customers with greener and healthier options when furnishing their homes and businesses.

From sisal, marmoleum, coir (coconut fibres), sea grass and mountain grass to wool, Hessian and slate and limestone tiles, over 90 per cent of Dodge’s carpet and flooring range can now be considered environmentally responsible.

John Harper, carpet manager at Dodge Interiors, explains: "We want to show our customers that there is a wide range of options when it comes to environmentally friendly carpets and flooring, and that they don't have to sacrifice quality, durability or colours schemes.

"We have also started to receive more enquires from customers who want to know more about greener carpets and flooring, not only so they can live a more sustainable lifestyle, but also because they are more aware of the impact indoor air quality can have on health."

Marmoleum is made of linseed oil and cork, without any toxic chemicals. It is easy to clean, comes in a wide range of colours and is a floor you can walk on without your feet being cold.

Sisal is one of the most hardwearing natural floors, so it is ideal for areas that get a lot of use, like hallways and stairs. It is made from leaves of a sub-tropical spiky plant and its fine strands are closely woven to give a fine texture.

Coir is made from the outer husk of coconuts and its thick chunky fibres give a rugged texture, bringing an ethnical appearance to any room.

John continues: "Dodges has always provided ranges of woollen carpets, and more recently slate and limestone tiles but these materials aren't always recognised as being from a sustainable source.

"It is exciting to see so many new materials being used that contribute to respecting our environment.

"Dodge Interiors has a great family history and we use this depth of knowledge and expertise to build on emerging trends.

"We welcome people to our showrooms to browse through our sample books and look forward to answering their questions and helping them choose sustainable options."
