For the enthusiast, the salmon-rich rivers of Lapland and the Archipelago are difficult to beat and also offer seat trout and pike fishing.

The most notable salmon-fishing rivers in Finland are Tenojoki in Lapland, Tornionjoki and Simojoki in Northern Finland, and Kymijoki, which empties into the Gulf of Finland in Kotka.

Other popular salmon-fishing sites are the delta areas of Kemijoki and Oulujoki rivers.

Central Finland offers exciting fly fishing with innumerable rivers and rapids set amidst vast forests.

Lake fishing offers fishing for pike, perch, pike-perch (zander) and trout, bream, ide and asp.

The most popular fish with fishermen across Finland is still the perch (Finland's national fish).

On the lakes there are opportunities to fish from either the shore or by boat and in winter, you can experience ice fishing (fishing through a hole in the ice!).
