Cornish Surfer Girls

16th June 2008

Year-on-year women are the fastest growing sector in the surf industry and with thousands of new girls taking to the waves, a brand new club, Cornwall Surfer Girls is on a mission to grow and develop its vision and membership.

Monday 16 June will see the first Cornwall Surfer Girls general meeting at the British Surfing Association office at 7pm to elect the club's committee and make decision on the club's constitution and exciting future direction.

The aim of this new initiative is to support and promote progression in girls' surfing and create a supportive network and community of female surfers across the county.

The club will be providing a range of innovative events and training opportunities for girls and women of all ages, including coaching clinics for specific issues such as duckdiving and cutbacks, fitness training and yoga, social events including beach BBQs, picnics and DVD evenings, organised group surf trips, local forums and annual amateur surf competitions for Surfer Girls members.

Andy Sturt, regional surf development coach at the British Surfing Association, said: "There is an ever growing number of girl surfers in the Cornwall area and it is vital to have a club network. Surf clubs are imperative so that people can learn, develop and have fun and there are plenty of girls in the area that will gain a great deal from this fresh new initiative."

Cornwall Surfer Girls has already developed some great offers for the membership, including reduced rates for beginners and novice surfers at BSA surf schools and reduced group entrance rates for local events such as the Masked Ball and Surfstock festival.

Tamsin Godfrey, of Cornwall Surfer Girls, said: "Cornwall Surfer Girls is for the girls surfing community of Cornwall to recreate the surfing spirit and provide a focal point for people to meet, socialise and develop their surfing skills.

"We've come up with the idea and now we're seeking lots of female members with a passion to see to the club fulfill its potential!

"I am really keen to see all of our girl local surfers, no matter what age and what level of surfing, joining us and there's a really exciting future ahead for us all."
