The BBC has confirmed it is moving its Plymouth base to new, state-of-the-art premises at Sutton Harbour, putting it at the heart of the city's maritime heritage.
BBC South West will lease part of a 65,000sq ft office block being built overlooking the picturesque harbour.
The new building is being developed by Plymouth-based regeneration and transport firm the Sutton Harbour Group.
BBC South West's operations include Spotlight and BBC Radio Devon.
Building work on the new development is due to start in 2008, and it is expected that the BBC will move from Broadcasting House in Seymour Road into its new premises and begin broadcasting in late 2010.
The new offices will be equipped with the latest technology for digital broadcasting.
John Lilley, head of the BBC's South West region, said: "This move will place our journalists and programme-makers closer to our audience and provide us with accessible facilities fit for the digital future.
"It's an exciting time for the BBC in the South West and demonstrates the BBC's commitment to developing and maintaining the strength of its local and regional broadcasting."
Chris Kane, head of BBC Workplace, added: "The new development at Sutton harbour is part of the BBC's wider commitment to provide modern, flexible, open buildings for the digital age, situated in the heart of the communities we serve."
