Get set for Glasto 2008!

If you manage to get through the malarkey of getting your hands on a ticket – congratulations, prepare yourself for one of the best music and arts festival in the world.

This year's Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts will take place on the weekend of the 27-29 June 2008 at the muddy fields of Worthy Farm in Pilton.

Although festival organisers are renown for keeping tight lipped about the musical line up until much closer to the event, there have already been rumours of headline performances by Led Zeppelin, Muse and Kylie Minogue.

With over 10 stages across the 900 acre vale of Avalon, the mix of music on offer is so eclectic that everyone can be catered for, whether you want to rock out with the big names on the Pyramid Stage, chill out in the Acoustic tent, nod your head approvingly at the Jazz World Stage or party the night away in the Dance Village.

Then again, Glastonbury is one of those festivals that you can to, not see any bands at all, and still have a cracker of a time. With over 170,000 people attending last year, there's plenty of characters to bump into, and a great deal of visual stimulation too.

Hundreds of stalls selling food and goods from all corners of the globe are dotted around the festival 'streets' (metal footpaths laid down when the mud gets squishy), there's a tent with circus performers, and you can wander up to the spiritual Stone Circle with thousands of others to release lanterns into the night sky until the sun comes up.

The toilets are fairly basic, you will get dirty, and your back may be a little sore after a few hours kip on the ground, but it's all part of the festival experience. Glastonbury is all about atmosphere: don't waste your time there sleeping.

Tickets don't officially go on sale until Sunday 6th April at 9am, but anyone attempting to get their hands on the golden tickets will have to pre-register online with a photograph by the end of February.

Michael Eavis, the founder and organiser of the Glastonbury Festival who last year received a CBE from the Queen for his services to music, explained the reasoning behind the ticket process.

He said: "I want to keep up the momentum we gathered last year by stopping ticket touting altogether - thank you for being so supportive of our registration process, which is after all quite tedious. I appreciate it so much."

It gets said every year by critics and festival-goers, so why break the mould: this year's Glastonbury festival is set to be the best one yet!
