Devon soul singer Joss Stone is to star in a new comedy being filmed on the English Riviera next month.

The 20-year-old diva will play the role of a "lesbian bingo caller" in the romantic comedy Snappers.

The film, directed by Torquay-based George Bamby, will also star Caroline Quentin, Bruce Jones, Chloe Howman and Matt Milburn.

Stone, from Ashill near Exeter, has also agreed to write and perform the soundtrack to the movie.

Snappers tells the story of an actress pursued by paparazzi while shooting a film in Torbay.

Joss Stone: "The script is so funny. I've been giggling to myself every day just thinking about the characters and what they get up to. I just wanted to challenge myself."

"The script is so funny. I've been giggling to myself every day just thinking about the characters and what they get up to. I just wanted to challenge myself," said Stone.

"There are things in the film that are going to really push the boundaries, and that excites me! I can also confirm there will be a long lingering French kiss, but it won’t be with a male!"

A delighted Bamby added: "We are over the moon to have Joss on board and to be playing such a fun part.

"We have a great scene where she gets up on stage in front of a microphone and the audience expects her to burst into song.

"Instead she starts calling the bingo! She joins a great cast, while the stunning backdrop of the English Riviera couldn’t be more perfect."

Stone, who has recently appeared in the Cadbury's Flake commercial, turned down three other Hollywood offers to appear in Snappers and is already looking forward to the premier, which will open the English Riviera Comedy Film Festival in September.

"I would not miss the premiere for the world," said Stone. "I can't wait for it, try keeping me away! I have already invited a few of my celebrity friends.

"I am just so excited to be part of something like this. So much so, I have become a shareholder in the company."
