A hotel in Thailand has won the award for the world's best hotel for $250 or less, in a poll of readers of America's Travel and Leisure magazine.

The unique 37-story, wave-shaped Peninsula Bangkok topped the prestigious Travel and Leisure World's Best Awards 2007 readers' survey.

Oregon's Tu Tu' Tun Lodge finished in second place, followed by Alberta’s Post Hotel and Spa in third and France's Hotel d'Europe in fourth.

Domaine des Hauts de Loire in France took fifth spot in the 12th annual Travel and Leisure survey, while Taipei's Shangri-La's Far Eastern Plaza Hotel came sixth.

Other hotels in the top 10 included Bangkok's Shangri-La Hotel and Mexico's Las Mananitas.

Travel and Leisure readers were asked to evaluate each hotel by its rooms, facilities, location, service, restaurants and value for money.

The Peninsula Bangkok features 370 guest rooms, all with a river view, and a selection of suites, including 60 one-bedroom and five themed suites.

At an average of 46 sq m (over 500 sq ft), the guest rooms are among the largest in Bangkok, according to the hotel.
