Bagus Place Retreat, described as the "definitive Tioman experience", is once again offering a refreshing and alternative holiday destination for discerning travellers.

In answer to the impersonal chain hotel and backpacker huts found on other parts of the beautiful Malaysian island, Bagus Place has opened a secluded beachfront villa - ideal for honeymooners as part of its unspoilt, exotic retreat.

Open since 2004, Bagus Place Retreat has enjoyed significant success, with excellent reviews and five-star recommendations from its customers. The heavenly hideaway opened with two chalets, a restaurant and a bar - and now its new villa, Rock House, is created specifically for couples who want to get away from it all.

Rock House perches on volcanic rock between the beach and jungle. Only natural materials - wood, thatch and granite - have been used in its construction. The floor-to-ceiling shutters open up to give a dazzling view of the sea, stretching all the way to the horizon, and at high tide the waves lap only a couple of steps away. Designed for a homely ambience, the villa features a double bedroom, lounge, bathroom and a private sun deck to laze away the afternoons. Remote control fans and a mini fridge make sure guests always stay cool.

Tioman Island is located off the east coast of Malaysia, a mere 30 minute propeller plane journey from Singapore or an hour from Kuala Lumpur. From the plane, the island's craggy mountains can be clearly seen, their slopes carpeted in lush tropical forest which drops down to white, sandy beaches and crystal clear sea. Guests can be collected from the airport by speedboat for a real James Bond-style start to their holiday.

Arriving at Bagus Place for the first time is a magical experience - the mountainous backdrop, the coral reef, the beautifully integrated buildings and the long, secluded beach create a romantic scene. Guests can jump on to the jetty for a panoramic view of the retreat, sip a sunset cocktail, watch the stars, play games or just chat.

Owner Ajay Barai said: "Bagus Place has a totally unspoilt atmosphere which is rarely found these days. An indefinable quality permeates the whole resort, making every moment precious. Our new chalet is made in this spirit of special-ness, from its design to its décor. There’s a definite wow feeling when walking through the door."

Excellent for diving, snorkelling, jungle trekking, nature watching or simply relaxing, Tioman was once voted one of the world’s top 10 most beautiful islands by TIME magazine. Couples enjoy visiting the local waterfall, where they are rewarded for their long trek by a refreshing dip in the pool. Other popular island pursuits include kayaking, seaside massage, reading and reposing in hammocks.

Holidays at Bagus Place (open March to October) are fully inclusive of all meals, soft drinks with meals, airport transfers by speedboat, use of sports equipment and local trips. Prices start from £70 per night per couple, depending on the time of year.
